Monster Hunter is a hack and slash, strategy, adventure game originally released September 21st 2004 in North America. The game is a simulation of hunting in a world filled with deadly monsters. Like actual hunting, successfully killing or capturing a monster requires the use of strategy, skill and provided items. Monster Hunter sold poorly in Europe and the Americas due to being given no advertising; however, it was a huge hit in its native land, Japan.

Monster Hunter Freedom is the PSP version of Monster Hunter G with extra features, such as new colored bosses and a Felyne kitchen. Monster Hunter Freedom is the Westernized name, while Monster Hunter Portable is used in Japan. Both games are essentially the same. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is the English equivalent of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd released in Japan. It is an expansion of Monster Hunter 2 with the omission of Yama Tsukami. Instead, two more monsters, the Tigrex and Akantor were added.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the western release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. It was released across America on June 22, 2009, Australia on the 25th of June, and Europe on the 26th of June. Via Ad-Hoc functionality. players were able to adventure with up to four friends.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was released in North America and Europe in March 2013 for Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate arrived in February 2015. This latest version has sold over 30 million copies to date. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate took players to new heights, literally, with the introduction of more vertical and lateral movement than ever. An expanded repertoire of actions created more dynamic hunting experiences with fluid climbing motions and the ability to jump attack from walls or ledges. In addition, players are able to ride atop a monster for a limited time as they hang on and deliver attacks. With the addition of two new weapon classes, challenging new monsters and numerous locales, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has been the most robust hunting experience yet.
