Halo is a franchise focusing on the adventures of the soldier Master Chief, and the Human vs. Covenant conflict set as the backdrop. Originally launched on both the Microsoft Windows and Xbox platforms, later iterations of the franchise were restricted to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms, with only a handful of later games released to other platforms.

The franchise is comprised of several games, with the following treated as the game's first and foremost series:
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Halo 2
- Halo 3
- Halo 4
A set of multi-player only maps were also released for Halo 2 as a separate retail product. Several other games were released, and are treated as side games set within the same universe, often focusing on other parts of the Human vs. Covenant conflict.

The main games in the series were re-released for the Xbox One console as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In this game collection, both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, including the multi-player maps, have been remastered for HD. Halo 3 and Halo 4 are also present, however, these are upscaled versions of the existing versions of the games originally released on the Xbox 360.
